Today, we embarked on an exciting adventure to the Nahualapa Thermal Baths to unveil our very first Pedal Powered Washing Machine! This incredible model is designed to function more like a dryer, using centrifugal force to leave clothes less wet, making it easier for the women to carry them home. We were thrilled to be greeted by a group of eager washers who immediately came over to see what fascinating contraption we had brought along. An old washing machine connected to a bicycle? "How innovative!" exclaimed one woman. "I've never seen anything like this!" Before long, we had a lively group of giggling women and men discussing and testing our machine! Thanks to their enthusiastic participation, we identified a few improvements, like possibly changing the crank for a fixed gear cassette and making the structure sturdier. Overall, it was an amazing test run! The clothes spin, the water stays and then drains, and everyone had a blast. The women were incredibly excited about the project and have helped us organize a class this Sunday so that more women can come and learn how to build and maintain these innovative pedal-powered creations!
